PostgreSQL Internal Series | How PostgreSQL Works: Storage Layout, Process & Memory Architecture

PostgreSQL is one of the most powerful open-source databases, but truly mastering it requires understanding what happens under the hood.

On 2 June 2026 at 3PM GMT, Semab Tariq, Senior PostgreSQL Consultant at Stormatics, will take a deep dive into PostgreSQL internals and explore how the database works beyond basic queries and administration. Alongside core concepts, he will also walk through real-world scenarios from customer environments, showing how these internals directly impact performance, troubleshooting, and system design decisions.

Webinar Optimizing PostgreSQL for Performance, Availability, Scalability (1)-1

This webinar will cover:

→ Logical structure of a PostgreSQL database cluster
→ Physical layout of databases, tables, and storage files
→ How PostgreSQL reads and writes data internally
→ Process architecture and how background processes interact
→ Memory architecture and how PostgreSQL optimizes performance

This session is ideal for database engineers, backend developers, and architects who want to move beyond surface-level PostgreSQL usage and gain a deeper engineering understanding of the system.
